Planning your Cabo San Lucas vacation
For
a lot of people, Cabo San Lucas’ beginnings are rooted in the resort
and tourism boom that began nearly 30 years ago. Cabo San Lucas’
inception, however, began before the dawn of luxury resorts, golf
courses, and tequila. The Pericu came to the area across land bridges
between Asia and North America. Years later, Spanish conquistadores
and pirates began to settle in the region. In the 1900s, Americans
discovered the cape’s natural resources, and began to fish in Cabo
San Lucas. In the 1970s the Mexican government began to pour money
into the area when the Transpenisular Highway was built. In the
1980s came the construction of the Los Cabos International Airport.
Cabo San Lucas also got a boost when stars like John Wayne, Bing
Crosby, and Desi Arnaz began to vacation in the area. Now, Cabo
San Lucas is one of the main tourist destinations in Mexico. Golfing,
fishing, or just plain relaxing, there’s plenty activity for guests
here.
The overall
temperature ranges from the mid 50s to the high 90s throughout the
year. In August, the average temperature is 80 degrees. In January,
it’s 65 degrees. Cabo San Lucas receives an average of 7 to 8 inches
of rain a year. Perfect weather transformed this arid region of
the Baja Peninsula into an area full of green - green you’ll find
on the links. The PGA Tour has made several stops in Cabo San Lucas
over the years. Famous players like Jack Nicklaus have even braved
the desert to create some of the most beautiful golf courses in
the world.
Climate
Cabo San Lucas’
temperatures don’t vary much. It’s 75 to 80 degrees in the winter,
and 80 to 90 degrees in the summer. Cabo is an arid region, so it
has sunshine 350 days a year. Entry
Requirements
Foreign citizens
must have a Mexican tourist card in order to enter the country. To
receive a tourist card, visitors must show valid picture identification
and one of the following: an original birth certificate, naturalization
certificate, or a valid passport. You should keep your Mexican tourist
card (or a copy) with you at all times. The tourism laws in Baja California
(the state Cabo San Lucas is in) are different than the rest of Mexico.
You can stay up to 180 days per year, for a maximum of 30 days per
visit.
Transportation
You can either
take buses, taxis, or ferries to get around the region. If you want
to take a taxi, consider sharing it with other people because it will
cost you less. If you want to explore the area on your own, rent a
car. The best time to make car rental arrangements is when you first
arrive in Cabo.
